About Us
- Studio Potter Archive (SPA) is a privately held collection that is best described as a work in progress. Paying homage to the studio potter is the foundation on which the archive exists while new work is actively sought for the collection. Education, the Enthusiasm of learning and members’ positive Experience exhibit SPA’s core values, which together, allow us to celebrate the artistic and technical expertise of the studio potter.
- This far-reaching collection includes an emphasis on utilitarian wares and sculptural form; glaze technology and surface decoration; studio pots and studio production wares, etc. The criteria chosen represent our specific vision. No potter is too big, nor to small to catch our attention; all potters are considered for inclusion into the SPA archive.
- At SPA, we’re ‘people-people’. Whether put into words on the forums page, individual postings, or spoken as a guest author, each member’s voice is greeted with an extended arm and open hand. SPA is committed to providing forums that uphold absolute professionalism and requests the same excellence of its members.
- SPA’s dedication to celebrating the studio potter is playfully characterized by the statement: As a hands-on archive, our ball of clay is the finished pot. We are thrilled to begin our work where potters’ work ends. For this reason we’ve made it possible for working potters to join our Working Potters directory at no cost. National and International exposure is available to potters working in the United States (including Puerto Rico), and to our northern friends in Canada. Providing this service simply makes us happy and will also benefit the SPA member community and the potters who register.
